Inside the Heads of City People 💭

Hello, 👋
Welcome to your latest update on our progress. This episode is about the city residents and what they think as they go about their daily affairs.
We’ve implemented thought bubbles for the populace to give you an insight into the kind of thoughts that pop in their heads during the day.
Unlike Customer Feedback, which directly impacts the performance of your business and you can review in the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) section, thought bubbles contain random stuff that may or may not be related to your food stand.
Some customers see your Stand and suddenly remember how hungry they are or decide not to stop by because, in their opinion, your burger quality is doubtful.
In general, you will be able to see people’s opinion about your
- Brand
- Service and Food Quality
- Stand Appeal
- Price.
You will also see thoughts about entirely unrelated things, and who knows, you just might stumble on an Easter egg in there somewhere. 😉
That’s all for today. Cheers 🥂.

When’s the best time to take a business loan? 🤔

Hello, 👋
Great to catch up with you again. We’ve been working on the Banking area of the game. While it’s still work-in-progress, we thought you’d like to take a look.
The bank provides loans to businesses, repayable over five years. The loan amount you can access at anytime will depend on your company’s debt-to-equity ratio, a measure the bank uses to assess how risky it is to loan your business money.
Ever heard the saying, “A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don’t need it”?
Well, this bank works a little bit like that too. 😃
They are happy to lend you substantial amounts as long as your debt-to-equity ratio is low, and you are flush with cash.
As you take more loans and your debt-to-equity ratio rises, the loan amounts you can access drop, and the interest rate rises for each loan.
When your debt-to-equity ratio gets too high, the bank classifies your business as High Risk and stops lending you money till you repay some of your outstanding loans.
A word about the Interest Rate: The Interest Rate reflects the nation’s economic situation and your creditworthiness as a borrower. A few months after the economy enters a recession, the Central Bank will begin to drive the interest rate down to give out more loans to stimulate the economy.
If your risk rating with the bank is in the green, you will be able to get loans at great interest rates at such times, and there’s no telling where that money will take you.
That’s all for today. Cheers 🥂.

New Location Reveal! 🥳

Greetings, 👋
Welcome to your latest update on our progress in developing Business Heroes. Today, we unveil the newest locality fresh off our implementation board: National Landmark.
National Landmark doubles as a historic landmark site and a park. It can get pretty crowded during the day as many people come to see the landmark or hang around in the park.
The largest customer groups you will typically find here are Tourists, Foodies, and Students on an excursion from school. As you can imagine, this is one of the city’s pricier localities, and parking a food stand here costs a pretty penny.
Foodies and Tourists are fussy about the quality of your food and the look of your food stand. So, you want to be sure you can meet their standards before making the investment to move here.
But, once you can satisfy their taste bud and eyesight, the National Landmark offers a remarkable opportunity for profit with a higher volume of traffic and three stand spots for business owners.
We hope you’ll enjoy your time at the National Landmark, and please tell us what you think of how it currently looks.
That’s all for today. Cheers 🥂.

What’s Your Customer’s Perfect Recipe?

Hello, 👋
It’s great to have you here with us today. We spent the last two weeks improving the Missions, Tooltips, and Perfect Recipe systems in the game. Here’s a peek at how the Perfect Recipe section currently looks.
The Perfect Recipe section is where you discover which customer segment loves your burger recipe and price. Like all new product development efforts, you start with a blank slate, not knowing the exact combination of ingredients and pricing your preferred customer would love.
Your ultimate recipe goal is to discover the perfect combination of ingredients and prices for every customer group in the city.
Each customer is an opportunity to customize your recipe to perfection. You can modify your recipe during gameplay…
Of course, all the customer segments will have their unique feedback on each recipe you put out because, as the popular saying goes, One customer’s food is another’s poison. This is where product-market fit is key.
You can quickly see what each customer segment thinks of your burger recipe in the Perfect Recipe section. When you discover the perfect recipe for a customer group, the ingredient combination will be unlocked for that group.
A perfect burger for one segment could be a terrible burger or a burger with too much or too few ingredients for another segment. And so it goes until you conquer the city.
It’s vital for customers to love your burgers because when they do, the feedback they give improves your business’s reputation and helps you attract even more customers.
That’s all for today. Cheers 🥂.

What’s a Business without a Mission?

Hello, 👋
Glad to reach out to you once again. I know it’s only been two weeks, but it sure feels much longer. As promised in our last update, we’ll show you how the Missions system works. It’s still very early, though, so please be kind. 🙈
The Missions system is what drives the game’s Career Mode. Starting and growing a business in real life can be overwhelming if not managed properly. It’s often difficult to know what’s important and where to begin when faced with all the options at once.
We discovered it’s not that much different in-game too. So, we designed the Career Mode to help new players gradually discover functionalities in the User Interface.
As you might expect, we start with simple business tasks like finding a great startup location for your business and then move on to more complex activities over time.
Can you tell how many functions are missing from the screenshot above? We have a small surprise for the first reader with the correct answer. Reply to this email with your answer for a chance to get it. 🤫😉
As you progress through the missions, Master Lee will provide additional gameplay and business tips, sometimes accompanied by animated highlights of the UI, to accelerate your grasp of the gameplay mechanics.
As I said, it’s still early days yet. But, as you can see from the above gif, we’ve got the system’s structure well set up, and we are now working on implementing the actual Missions. We’d share more on that in the coming weeks.
That’s all for now, Business Hero! Cheers to the weekend 🥂.

What’s the best location for your food truck? 🚚

Hello, 👋
Welcome to the latest edition of your updates on our progress. We’ve been working extensively on the game’s Missions system over the last few weeks, and we can’t wait to show you how it’s looking very soon.
Today, you’d discover how locations affect your food truck business. Few things will impact the survival and growth of your food truck business as picking the right location. There are seven locations in the city, and you can see them all below on the map.
Hovering over each location describes the location and hints at the kind of customers to expect there. Each location has a unique mix of customer groups, a limited number of stand spots, and cost of doing business.
The city brief provides a summary of these three aspects of each location.
In the early stages of your business, when you can only afford a Burger Bike and are still cash-strapped, you will need to pick a location with a customer mix and cost of doing business that’s favorable to you.
For instance, a location like Park Central might not be the best place to start your business. It has a higher daily permit fee with lots of Environmentalists and Fit Ones hanging around, and you know they are pretty particular about their food. You might not be able to afford the quality they require, and their feedback will damage your business’s reputation.
The appeal of your food truck is also essential in locations with lots of Foodies, Tourists, Fit Ones, and Managers. They will not touch your food truck with a long pole if its appeal is low.
On the other hand, students and parents don’t care too much about the appeal of your food truck. As long as you offer great value for their money, they will stop over for a burger and also help build your reputation.
So, what’s the best location for your food truck? It all depends on the phase you are in your business. 😉
That’s all for now, Business Hero! Cheers to the weekend 🥂.

What goes in a burger? 🍔

Hello, 👋
We are back again with your regular update on our development journey. While we continued polishing the events system, we also spent some time implementing the recipe section.
The recipe section is where you craft your magic burger formula for various tastes and wallets in the city. It works like a kitchen without the heat of cooking, It’s up to you to decide the burger recipe and pricing for your food stand.
Your burger recipe has five ingredients with a minimum and maximum amount you can include in your burger:
Patty: 100g – 300g per burger.
Tomato slices: 0 – 5 slices per burger.
Lettuce leaves: 0 – 5 leaves per burger.
Cheese slices: 0 – 5 slices per burger.
Sauce: 0 – 3 sachets per burger.
Your ultimate goal is to discover the perfect combination of ingredients and price for every customer group in the city. This isn’t as straightforward as you might think. The city’s population has nine customer groups.
Each group is particular about how your business can provide a food service that matches their lifestyle.
For example, Students mainly prefer a cheap burger than one that is healthy or nutritious and expensive. Fit Ones on the other hand, care more about the burger’s quality than it being relatively low cost.
After customers buy your burger, they give you feedback immediately about different aspects of your business.
If your recipe and price perfectly match their taste and wallet, you get a perfect recipe and perfect price feedback. If not, you get negative feedback, and you can adjust your recipe accordingly.
That’s all for today. Cheers 🥂.

How the news affects you 📰

Hello, 👋
Welcome to today’s edition of our activity round-up for the last two weeks. We’ve been implementing the event system in the game and we are excited to show you how it is looking.
You can think of the game’s events system like the news media in real life. It informs you of all local and global activities or occurrences that impact your business.
The news section pops up whenever news breaks, and you can select your preferred news channel from three choices to get the latest news.
The news can directly affect your business or create a window of opportunity for you to capitalize on.
For instance, your business might go viral on social media overnight, causing an influx of new customers to your food truck. Or massive floods across the country could destroy farms and drive the price of tomatoes in the city sky-high.
You will encounter a wide range of events as you grow, and while the effect of most news is temporary, a few result in permanent changes to your business.
Often unexpected and beyond your control, news events could throw you a lifeline your business desperately needs or derail your best-laid plans. But managing unexpected conditions is the hallmark of successful entrepreneurs, right?
Brace yourself. This journey to becoming the next Business Hero will undoubtedly test your ability to handle unanticipated events.
That’s it for today. Cheers🥂.

Unveiling the Drinks Inventory Section 🥤

Hello, 👋
It’s great to catch up with you again. Today’s episode is about the drinks inventory system and how it differs from the burger inventory management system.
The drinks on offer in the game are a combination of water, soda, and juice. They serve as a complementary product that your business may sell to customers to increase revenue.
The inventory management for drinks works nearly the same way as that for burgers:
Stock (Total) – Shows the amount of drinks you have left in stock and your new total (in brackets) after you make an order.
Next Day’s Purchase Order – Where you order more drinks for the next business day.
Drinks Counter – Shows the total number of drinks in your inventory.
Daily Cost and Excess Loss – Daily cost is the amount your next day’s order costs. Excess loss is the cost of all wasted drinks.
Storage Capacity – The green bar represents how much storage your drink stock has used up and how much you have left.
Unlike burgers, however, drinks are not your business’s primary product. They require your food truck to be equipped with a cooler box or fridge before you can sell them.
Depending on the type you own, you can equip your food truck with a cooler box or fridge by going to the add-ons section (where all the equipment upgrades are for your food truck are).
Side note: Upgrades that have the padlock symbol on them indicate that they are not compatible with your food truck.
After equipping your food truck with a means of cold storage, you can begin to sell drinks to your customers. Notice in the image above that some fridges also increase the shelf life of burgers and ingredients.
Be sure to keep an eye on your storage consumption, though. Drinks ordered after your cold storage is at full capacity will go to waste. And we certainly do not want that. 😉
That’s it for today. Cheers🥂.

Update: Inventory Management and Automation

Welcome to your latest update on our progress developing Business heroes, our business and economic simulation game for PC. While we’ve been spending a tremendous amount of time just debugging the food truck financial reports section 😭, we still managed to get work done on the Inventory section. Have a look.
Burger Inventory 🍔
The Burger Inventory section is where you manage all the stock you need for your burgers – Buns, Patties, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Cheese, and Sauces.
A quick run down of the sections:
Stock (Total) – Helps you track how much of each ingredient you have left in stock and your new total (in brackets) after you make an order.
Next Day’s Purchase Order – Where you order how much of each ingredient you need for the next business day.
Burger Counter – Shows the number of burgers you can make with your current ingredient inventory size.
Daily Cost and Excess Loss – Daily cost is the amount your next day’s order costs. Excess loss is the cost of all wasted ingredients. Ingredients get wasted when you order after your storage is full.
Storage Capacity – The brown bar represents how much storage your total stock has used up and how much is left.
Drinks 🥤
The drinks on offer in the game are a combination of water, soda, and juice. They serve as a complementary product that your business may sell to customers to increase revenue. The inventory management for drinks works nearly the same way as that for burgers.
Unlike burgers, however, drinks are not your business’s primary product. They require your food truck to be equipped with a cooler box or fridge before you can sell them.

Auto-stock 🤖
Inventory management is one of the activities you will be carrying out daily to ensure you have enough stock for the next day. You will frequently have to increase or decrease your stock to avoid buying more or less than what you need. For Burger Inventory, this means managing quantities for all your ingredients individually.
As you expand, it’s only normal that you will want to automate your inventory process. We implemented a pay-per-use solution called Auto-stock to provide this automation.
With one click, auto-stock helps you calculate the quantity of ingredients you require for the number of buns you have in stock. This way, you can quickly balance your order quantity across multiple stands, save time, and avoid overspending on inventory.
You will pay a fee every time you use the auto-stock function, so keep an eye on your account balance when you use it. If you are running low on cash, you can always manage your stock manually. 😊
After implementing this function in our economic simulation game, we were impressed with its impact on the gameplay experience. We are sure you’d appreciate the convenience it introduces to your management activities when you can afford to use it.
